With 99% Connected, Cambodia Closes in on Electricity for All

Did you know that almost 99% of rural villages in Cambodia are now connected to the main electricity grid?

Over the last decade, Australia has supported Cambodia to deliver sustainable and quality electricity infrastructure services across the country. We are now working together to connect the four villages, among other 1% final villages, across the Kampong Cham commune, Sambour districts, Kratie province.

The Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED) jointly visited Sambour district with the Ministry of Mines and Energy Cambodia, Electricity Authority of Cambodia អាជ្ញាធរអគ្គិសនីកម្ពុជា, and a private company to meet with local authorities and communities. They discussed the potential establishment of a solar farm to provide mini off-grid electricity to the four villages.

The solar farm would provide 4,000 people in these four villages, with over 50% women and girls with affordable, reliable and plentiful supply of electricity. They will be able to easily switch on an electrical pump at their houses.
